Site Investigation

Thorough understanding and appreciation of the existing geotechnical and geological conditions at a site is paramount to the success of any project, both commercially and practically. A lack of understanding of the constraints can result in significant consequences including unnecessary expenses from overly conservative designs and program delays. Comprehensive geo-environmental assessments are crucial in mitigating these risks, which is why we offer site investigation services as part of our holistic package alongside our civil and structural engineering services. This allows us to ensure that the investigations carried out on all our projects are tailored specifically to suit what we require, with a co-ordinated approach in arriving at the most appropriate below ground solutions on each project.

Phase I Geo-Environmental Desk Studies

We conduct detailed Phase I Geotechnical Desk Studies to assess geological, environmental and historical data, identifying potential risks and constraints for developments.

Phase 2 Geotechnical & Environmental Investigations

Including a wide range of investigation techniques such as:

  • Intrusive and non-intrusive investigations including Borehole drilling, trial pitting, geophysical surveys, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) etc.
  • In-situ and Ex-Situ geotechnical testing to assess soil strength and suitability for construction
  • Geotechnical laboratory testing services include soil classification, particle size analysis, moisture content, and consolidation testing.
  • Soil infiltration tests, including test pits, soakaways, and falling head tests in accordance with British Standard BS 1377: Part 7 and BRE 365 guidelines to assess drainage characteristics and permeability.
  • Soil sampling and subsequent chemical testing to identify contaminants such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and other pollutants in soil and groundwater.
  • Gas monitoring services to detect hazardous gases like methane, carbon dioxide, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Groundwater monitoring services to assess the quality and levels of groundwater.
  • Interpretative reporting which is written in conjunction with our civil and structural engineering teams to ensure we achieve the right solution for each project.

Development of Remediation Strategies

We prepare Remediation Method Statements (RMS) outlining the practical remedial actions required to address any findings from the Phase 2 investigations. We ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations throughout.

Engagement with Statutory Authorities

Development of Remediation Strategies

We engage with statutory environmental authorities to obtain approvals for geotechnical designs and remediation strategies. Our proactive approach ensures compliance with statutory requirements resulting in project continuity through planning stages.
